How to Use AI to Contribute
Help expand the directory for your community — no tech skills required
💡 Overview
Everyday Social Worker is designed to grow with help from the community — and AI makes that a lot easier.
You don't have to call agencies, verify info, or be a tech expert. If you can copy and paste, you can help.
Below is a step-by-step guide to using an AI chat tool (like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, etc.) to create a full, exhaustive CSV of resources for your area (or any area you care about).
We'll take it from there and handle cleanup, checks, and uploading.
🧩 Step 1: Get the CSV Template
- Download our resource template (CSV or TSV) – it has all the required columns, for example:
category, subcategory, organization_name, program_name, description, eligibility, cost, intake_process, phone, after_hours_phone, email, website, street_address, city, state, zip, hours, notes, last_verified, region, languages_accessibility, delivery_methods, service_domains, food_type_tags, service_type_tags - Do not change the column names. AI will fill them in for you.
💬 Step 2: Open an AI Chat Tool
You can use any AI chat platform you like.
Start a new conversation and paste a clear instruction like:
"I'm helping build a community resource directory. Please find all the community resources in [CITY / COUNTY / ZIP / REGION] that provide [CATEGORY, e.g., Housing] services.
Use these exact column headers and no others: category, subcategory, organization_name, program_name, description, eligibility, cost, intake_process, phone, after_hours_phone, email, website, street_address, city, state, zip, hours, notes, last_verified, region, languages_accessibility, delivery_methods, service_domains, food_type_tags, service_type_tags
For each resource, fill in as many fields as possible. Output the results as a table (or CSV/TSV) with one row per program."
📋 Categories, Subcategories & Service Types
Copy this list and paste it into your AI chat to help it understand exactly what categories and service types to use:
📚 Step 3: Make AI Go Deeper, Not Just "Top 10"
AI tools LOVE to give short lists. We want exhaustive lists — or as close as possible.
After the first response, tell the AI:
"Thank you. Please continue listing more organizations in [CITY/REGION] that fit this category (try to be exhaustive) and add them to the same table."
Then repeat the request and have the AI double-check that it hasn't missed anything:
"Before we stop, please scan your knowledge again for any additional resources in [CITY/REGION] that match these categories and add any you missed."
The key is: don't stop at the first answer. Keep asking, "Are there more?"
🧱 Step 4: Keep the Columns Clean & Matching
Once the AI has generated a big table:
- Tell it:
"Please reformat all results into a CSV/TSV using exactly these column headers, in this order, with a single header row and no extra commentary: category, subcategory, organization_name, program_name, description, eligibility, cost, intake_process, phone, after_hours_phone, email, website, street_address, city, state, zip, hours, notes, last_verified, region, languages_accessibility, delivery_methods, service_domains, food_type_tags, service_type_tags"
- If the AI adds extra columns or changes names, say:
"The column names must match exactly. Remove any extra columns and rerun the CSV with only these headers."
- Copy the final CSV/TSV output into the template file you downloaded (or save it as its own CSV file).
📤 Step 5: Send Us Your File
When you're done, just submit your CSV/TSV file.
You do not need to:
- Call organizations
- Verify hours
- Double-check every detail
We'll handle review, cleanup, and integration on our side.
Even one file, for one city or one category, helps us grow Everyday Social Worker and helps real people find support.
🌟 "Power User" Tips
Tips to Make AI More Exhaustive:
- Ask for "all" resources, not just "some" or "major."
- Go category by category (housing, food, health, mental health, etc.).
- After each answer, ask:
- "Are there more?"
- "Did we miss any smaller, community-based programs?"
- "Are there church-based, school-based, or neighborhood programs that fit?"
- Ask AI to double-check:
"Before we stop, please scan your knowledge again for any remaining resources in [CITY/REGION] that match these categories."
